Tests

Tests are obviously very important! They help to make sure that you're taking the right stuff, and that it hasn't been tampered with. To that end, ouppy will make any tests it gets done available!!

There are two kinds of tests I will perform: those on raws, or the ingredients that go into the stuff, and those on the compound, to check that the final product matches the concentrations ouppy's trying to achieve, cuz its not got the fanciest top-of-the-line lab equipment, and because it's got butterpaws >~<

Unfortunately, these are rather expensive, so it can't promise it will have a concentration test for every batch (depends on lot size), but it will try to the best of it's abilities!!! c: Raws tests are very important, so ouppy will try it's best to get one for everything it uses.

What does it mean for something to be <100% pure?

Purity is the % of the compound that ouppy received which is chemically identical to the target substance. When the purity of a substance is lower than 100%, it means there is either some filler added, or the process that was used to manufacture it was not perfect. When dealing with a substance that has a substantial amount of impurities (Ouppy would typically say, >2% tops), it's important to analyze the use-case and what those impurities are. Let's analyze the case of Ouppy's first lot of progesterone from 2024-08-10 (which it is still a little bit upset about):

In this case, we can see the impurities are H₂O, and DMSO. We all know what H₂O is. c: DMSO is Dimethyl Sulfoxide. DMSO is used in the synthesis of chemicals as a solvent, and is sometimes used in transdermal medication to help medication penetrate the skin. So, it doesn't seem these impurities are "deal breakers" so to say, even though it is frustrating. Ouppy will get it's progesterone elsewhere next time.

In this circumstance, because the impurities are largely benign, Ouppy will still use these raws to produce transdermals, however, it does mean that ouppy will have to use about 8% more to reach it's target concentration. Because it is significantly impure, Ouppy would not prepare an injectable solution with this.

You should always use a critical eye towards what you're consuming, and only consume a prepared medication if you feel comfortable with the risks you are taking for yourself.
